Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.
This represents his maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.
He saved 4 early break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
