The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in duties at both ends of the field

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had scored only a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
